It’s packing day today at Kamerawerk as we’re headed to the RAI studios in Italy to shoot 3D test sequences for EBU next week. These sequences, shot in 2K @ 50 fps will be used as an educational resource for broadcasters, as test material for codec development/performance testing as well as further standardization of S3D.

We are truly excited to staff the core 3D team on this project, incl. DoP, Stereographer, Stereo Supervisor, S3D DIT as well as supervision of the post production process. Along the ride will be partners such as RAI (who is hosting the production), ARRI, Technicolor (doing QC with certifi3D) and TVLogic.

We feel this is a great opportunity to help advance development and the growing adoption of stereoscopic 3D production and we couldn’t be more happy to be involved in this. Stay tuned to our social channels for further updates…

BMW Planet Power

It’s no secret that stereoscopic 3D combined with super slow-motion imagery captured by highspeed cameras like the Weisscam HS-2 is a passion of ours. So we were pretty hyped when our friends over at Weisscam along with the folks from German agency Serviceplan approached us to do stereography and stereo supervision on their upcoming commercial for BMW’s new super bike. The commercial was shot late last summer at an old military airfield. While the bike and rider as well as portions of the ground are life action footage, the entire background was replaced with CGI elements to create the surreal world ofPlanet Power. Kamerawerk’s stereographer Christian Witschi and stereo supervisor Nicolas H. Sieber worked closely with the director (Ryan McManus) and the entire team to deliver a never before seen stereo 3D experience. Planet Power currently runs in full stereo 3D ahead of Men in Black 3 in theaters across Germany. Enjoy:

KAMERAWERK does S3D for new BMW Ad

Back in August our Stereographer Christian and Nicolas serving as S3D Supervisor travelled to Germany to work on a more than exciting project. We were commissioned by our friends at Weisscam to handle stereo 3D on an Ad for BMW’s upcoming S1000 RR Superbike. Once again we were working on a project combining high speed capture and S3D, which always makes for a thrilling experience both while shooting and for audiences to see. The project was conceived by director Ryan McManus and the folks at Serviceplan. Nicolas and Christian worked closely with the director and the entire crew to create an awesome 3D experience. DIM3NSION: Anaglyph 3D Party @ Salzhaus

3D Film Festival in L.A.

Anyone in the Los Angeles area this weekend? If so make sure to check out the 3D Film Festival from Sept. 22-25! Last year our S3D short Dualphasenstahl was shown there and this year we have two of our S3D films in the line up!

First up is Trinsectum, our eerie alien insect bonanza which will have you hiding behind your seat. And as a world premiere our ultra slow motion 3D film RISE will make you levitate in spherical heights! Both films will be shown on Friday night between 6.30-9.00 PM and a second screening between 12.00 AM and 2.00 AM at the LAFS Main Theater. Highspeed Music Video

Just a short post today but we most definitely want to share this one with you: We recently provided aWeisscam HS-2 high speed camera as well as the technical crew and consulting to a Swiss music video production. While our crew had a great time on set (as is usually the case when we do high speed shots with the WEISSCAM HS-2) we were totally stoked to see the result, which was forwarded to us this morning! Does she feel the same

…is the title of the new single by Swiss shooting star Moritz. His debut album Piece of Gold jump started through the Swiss music scene early this year and last month we produced the music video for Does She Feel the Same which is hitting the Swiss TV networks this week. It will be featured as the video of the week on SF Music Night tonight!

Die Insekten kommen!

So, es ist fast so weit: Unser neuer 3D-Film “TRINSECTUM” steht in den Startlöchern. Bevor wir Euch nächste Woche den Trailer in feinstem 3D servieren gibt es heute zur Vorspeise einen Blick hinter die Kulissen des Shoots:

Über die Story von TRINSECTUM erzählen wir Euch zum Start des Trailers mehr. An dieser Stelle verlieren wir für die Technik-Fans lieber ein paar Worte über die Zutaten für unser neustes Werk. Der ganze Film wurde in einem Miniatur-Set in unserem Studio in Winterthur gedreht. Für unsere LichtgeniesChristian und Stefan, war es eine willkommene Abwechslung einmal ein ganzes Set mit einigen kleinen Dedo Lights einzuleuchten, anstatt den ganzen Tag riesige 4K-Leuchten durch die Gegend zu schleppen.

Unser Cast an exotischen Insekten wurde vom Spezialisten für Krabbeltiere, Martin “Lord Phasmid” Pulfer trainiert und während des Shoots fachmännisch geleitet. Man sagt ja immer: “Don’t work with animals or children!” – aber in diesem Fall waren die gepanzerten Kollegen sehr umgänglich und hielten sich (mit Ausnahme der rebellierenden Fauch-Schaben) strikt an die Anweisungen von Regisseur Nicolas Henri.

Bei der Stereographie für TRINSECTUM ist Christian dem Thema entsprechend etwas experimentellere Wege gegangen. Da wir fast schon im Makro-Bereich gedreht haben, durfte auch der 3D-Effekt ein wenig stärker sein um die ausserirdisch anmutenden Insekten richtig in Szene und Raum zu setzen:

Gedreht wurde TRINSECTUM mit unseren SI-2K Kameras auf der P+S Technik Standard Rig. Für das Recording kam zum ersten mal unser 1 Beyond Wrangler zum Einsatz mit dem wir direkt aus den Kameras ein Cineform RAW in 3D aufgezeichnet haben. Die Daten gingen danach direkt zu Claudio, Senior 3D Editor bei Kamerawerk. Auf seinem auf Stereo 3D getunten Schnittsystem, dass wir liebevoll “José” nennen, waren dann einige Abende an 3D-Schnittkunst angesagt um aus den abstrakt-surrealen Bildern die Story herauszuarbeiten.
